Negotiations
There are no current negotiations beween CUPE Local 410 (the library workers) and the GVLRA (the GVPL Board's bargaining agent).
Library Workers in the Greater Victoria Capital Region District, represented by CUPE Local 410, have been without a collective agreement since December 31, 2006 (well over a year now or literally 1348 days). Library workers finally voted to go on strike in the fall of 2007, because negotiations with their employer the GVPL Board had completely stalled and broken off.
Library workers have been in a a legal strike position since Friday, September 7, 2007 and began to engage in a variety of creative strike actions to obtain the attention of the employer and hopefully bring them back to the bargaining table. The GVPL Board locked out the library's workers on February 18, 2008 in an effort to "protect the assets of the library" but continue to refuse negotiations with the union or to accept third party arbitration.
CUPE Local 410 is ready and willing to go back to the bargaining table. We are waiting for the GVPL Board's bargaining agent (the GVLRA) to join us in discussing how we can settle our differences.
